Mid-autumn Holiday - THAILAND!

Finally it's here again, holiday! This year the mid-autumn holiday is longer than usually. There is the national day + mind-autumn making it 5 days long + weekends. So now I have 9 days to spend in Thailaaaand1

First, tell me how to smoke alcohol...?

Got pretty decent priced tickets by Sri Lanka Air straight to Bangkok in this high season. In China there are about 700 million people travelling to go home on the holiday. Mid Autumn holiday is a family holiday much like the Spring Festival (Chinese new-year) in February. There have been reports of traffic moving 2 km / hour in many areas of China because the government decided to remove all road toll fee's for the holiday, very smart. Most of all the bigger cities, specially Beijing was totally Gridlocked for the first days of the holiday. Same thing with the airport, all domestic flights were late. Kari's flight to Shanghai was delayed by around 4 hours...

Sri Lanka airlines was really nice, the flight was in time, food was good, plenty of space and service in plane great. The check in counter however was the slowest I've ever experienced, checking in 4 persons in front of me took 45 minutes....HOW???

Old city ruin

When arriving in Bangkok there was SOOOO much people, getting through the customs took over 1 hour but then when coming out there was not a single person in the taxi que! Stayed at a place in Sukhumvit called Presidential Solitaire, really nice place and the suite price was only around 60 euro. Some night shopping and walking around enjoying the local food :)

Da came to pick us up in the morning from the hotel (THANKS A LOT FOR THAT!!) We kept looking for a parking space for over 1 hour and finally found it not far from the Royal Palace. The king does not spend almost any time here anymore but it is also one of the biggest Buddhist palaces in the world with worlds longest declining Buddha.

All pics related to the Royal Palace below are from Wat Pho

Looks heavy...
Amazing details on everything!!
Endless amount of statues
Whole wall paining about "Humans and monkey uniting and beating the giants"
Worlds longest reclining Buddha statue in Wat Poo
Charity money for the temple, making cool sounds when loads of people put in coins, the temple sounds like an old-school bank
After the palace we walked around some markets to find some extra beach clothes etc. Got some new shorts! My last Thailand shorts lasted for 3 years, lets see how long these will...
 Fruit market....and lovely smelly durians

At 9 pm we went to the Lomprayha buss stop to take the buss south and get out to the islands....Was very messy and tiring ride. 11 hours and benches were pretty small.
