Shanghai Shanghai

After a wild trip in Macao and Hong Kong we returned to "home" to Shanghai. There are not that many tourists spots to see in Shanghai compared to the Great Wall and Forbidden city in Beijing. However, for nightlife, shopping and eating out this city is one of the BEST!!

The world football cup is very popular in China too. Most of the sports bar have set up huge screens and offer drink deals for beer if you come and watch the game. At O'Malleys we got 1.5 liters of beer for about 10 Euros. I also read that a 26 year old Chinese man had died from watching the football matches 11 days straight. Because of the time differences with Europe each match starts around or after midnight...

We went on a tourist buss tour that goes around the city. The weather was perfect and sun was shining! Air is so much better in this city than Beijing!!!!

Traffic, always traffic

The buss stopped at the Yu Yan gardens which is a royal palace from the 16th century originally. It was burned down by the Japanese and about 30 years ago it became open for the public. There are old style houses and also lots of shops selling touristy stuff. And of course loads of Starbucks and other western chains...

One of the best food in Asia is Korean BBQ! The menus at this place had a lot of interesting meats...Prices were reasonable but the food wasn't nearly as good as the one i had in Seoul a few months ago.

Chest meat
Eye meat?
Abdominal!!

Shanghai is the home of worlds highest observatory tower at an amazing height of 474 meters! It is the top bridge in the IFC tower which looks like a bottle opener. We were lucky to have a very clear day so visibility was quite good. It took a really long time to que up here and wait and wait. Finally we got up to the the 100th floor! Views are amazing! Wish I could do bungee from this building someday!!

City plan

There is a new trend in Shanghai called "Occupy Lawson". Lawson is a small supermarket chain scattered all over the town. The idea is that a lot of foreigners gather outside the Lawson someone chooses and then people stand outside and buy all drinks and foods they have inside the store before hitting the bar or club. Also a good time to get to know new people. There came a truck with more deliveries and a lot of people helped the truck-driver to carry in the stuff to the store. Some also climbed on the roof of the truck and the people working at Lawson seemed kinda terrified. The police also came and looked what was going on but left after a while when no one listened to them and they did not speak any english...

Police powerless...

 More beer!

A place called tianzifang in Shanghai is where they have all kinds of small shops selling small souvenirs and other cool stuff. They used to have a Finland store here but it closed around a year ago. We had a beer on a really nice rooftop place here. Very cozy!
