Even though the China is ruled under a Communistic Party it has nothing to do with Communism. At the moment China is a Hypercapitalistic country where it's every man for himself. The education is free until elementary school but after that everything costs. For people who have a resonable income the fee here isn't very high because it's about 5000 yuan annually but let's say you only make 3000-4000 a month. Even in Finland some people would find it rather expensive to pay over 500 Euros for each kid to go to school annually.
Let's say a household of 2 make 60 000 (just above 6000 euros) yuan annually, they can afford 2 square meter of an apatment in Beijing if they save the whole annual salary (crazy). Apartment prices are souring here, prices can go up by 30% in just a few months. The normal price for a 70m2 flat is over 200 000 Euros and that house is not nearly as high quality as the houses we have in Finland. There are houses much more expensive than this, for example where I live the newer apartments go for over 6000 Euros per square meter!
Add living costs, school, medical fees and other things that cost in life you might start understanding how much fun you can have in your life...And if people here want to travel there is always a lot of hazzel with Visas. Getting a Visa requires a lot of papers and downpayments etc while we can pack our bag and just order a ticket online and leave the same day. Oh jeah, try affording a car as well! (not that I recommend driving in Beijing because of the horrible traffic)
Life here ain't as easy as we have it. Stop complaining about small things because you don't really have it all that bad.
The mornings are more fun now when I can ride to work. On the way a lot of old people are having their daily morning excercises outside the Russian embassy. It's mostly about clapping hands, dancing around and have the old people to socialise with others. They should have this in parks everywhere so no old people would feel bored and lonely home AND get some healthy morning workout :)

yes,you are right, if aliens stopping complaining about BJ, sometimes the life here is not all bad. However, we always have high (or reasonable)expectation for this city. It is the capital of the country, but it is dirty, clouded, weak in economy, and people here are so conservative...the only thing it overweights Shanghai is the public transportation charges very low. Back to the point, the most popular topic now in China is "what are we struggling life for", which is quite similar to ur key point here. The economy seems goes up and up but why we feel worse and worse? The cost of having a medium-level living standard far exceeds the people's expectation and capability, but no one can change that.
